hmm he does have a point i guess, the connection between putting in effort(grind) to get a reward(leveling up) does appeal to the human nature. It was pretty funny too

that was well put - good read imo - grinding does have it's places... and the feeling once you do max out (GW's lvl 20 mx does not count) is GREAT.

Dunno, for me maxing char on first mmo felt kinda shitty: "Theese are just freaking numbers, i cant believe i spent so much time making em +1 bigger.". I much prefer "Okay, i am done with tutorial, bring it in!" gw1 style.

Anyhow, article got one thing right: Games simplify life and put there that effort - reward relation as well as goal - straightforward/simple way of achieving it. And both feels good.

But it is not really connected with grind. You have exactly same thing going on with other games too.

Tetris for example has effort (place block) and reward (line disappears, you can play some more) connected neatly as well.

Agree with you. I think it's even worse for people who know programming (even the basics which anyone can learn online). We know it's down to numbers anyway. The interesting stuff is outside of numbers where action happens.

Tbh I think MMOs follow the trend of RL, where money is becoming everything, the numbers take precedence over everything (and believe me, I know about bills and tons of things to pay for my family). It's sad because life and games are much richer than that.

As sad as it is grinding is very much a part of most games. Either doing the same lvl over and over again until you get it right or find the secret or killing enough things to get "something".

My current grind is in Pre-Searing. I am collecting Hunter's ale and trading them for gold and then for Black Dye.

The positive thing is that after 3 months of continuous non stop grinding I can buy what ever I want and never have to worry about having gold in Pre-Searing again.

40 stacks of Ale is my grind. I need 38 more. Let the gind begin.
